A new update is available for SEO & Index Tools by Nulumia.

SEO & Index Tools 1.0.5 Release Candidate 8

Update highlights

To update your theme, please download the latest version at:
https://www.nulumia.com/shop/my-downloads/

You must select "Overwrite files during install/upgrade" when upgrading to this version.

Overview

This update brings a major overhaul to AMS compatibility, with integration for AMS 2.2.17. The latest version of AMS introduced huge changes which overlap some of the previous indexing features of this addon. SEO & Index Tools now utilizes these native features in AMS instead.

But don't worry, this update also provides automatic migrations which will move existing SEO data into AMS when you upgrade! You don't need to do a thing, as it's all handled for you.

Q: I don't use Article Management System. In this patch still important?
A: YES.
This patch makes significant improvements to the global indexing criteria feature, and you should upgrade right away.

** AMS MIGRATION GUIDE - MOVING TO AMS 2.2.17 **

Step 1: Upgrade to SEO & Index Tools 1.0.5 RC 8 (This release)
Step 2: Upgrade to AMS 2.2.17
Step 3: Review your AMS category indexing settings (Inherit, Deny, Criteria etc)

You must upgrade this addon first, before moving to AMS 2.2.17. You should upgrade your AMS immediately after.

A note on future releases
Because of the major changes in the latest AMS, all future updates and development for SEO & Index Tools will require AMS 2.2.17+ if you use AMS. This will require you to have a valid active license and access to at least 2.2.17 from XenAddons.com. While it would be terrific to be backward-compatible, it would be virtually impossible in this scenario.

If you only have access to AMS 2.2.16 or below, you need to continue using an earlier version of SEO & Index Tools (1.0.5 RC 6 or below).

You must select "Overwrite files during install/upgrade" when upgrading to this version.

Overview

This is a massive update that offers a collection of bug fixes, UI & quality-of-life changes, and full legacy compatible for past, current and future versions of AMS & UBS.

XenAddons Dual Mode

Users may now install or upgrade any current or future version of SEO & Index Tools, no matter which version of AMS or UBS you are running. The addon will now run in a special legacy mode for older versions of AMS and UBS, adding custom features prior to when they became natively available in each addon. Or, if you're using the latest versions, SEO & Index Tools will seamlessly merge features to augment them!

What's more, you can safely upgrade from older versions of AMS or UBS at any time. SEO & Index Tools will listen in the background for upgrades and make changes automatically! What's more, this addon is now smart enough to convert its own features to AMS or UBS upon upgrades, so you'll never notice a difference!

TLDR: Just upgrade and everything's taken care of for you!

In addition, there's numerous new improvements such as connected addon listing, prefixed database tablles, page title improvements, Google Live Preview tweaks and more. Check out the full changelog for details!

Google Live Preview

SEO & Index Tools 1.0.6 Alpha 3

Update highlights

To update your theme, please download the latest version at:
https://www.nulumia.com/shop/my-downloads/

You must select "Overwrite files during install/upgrade" when upgrading to this version.

Overview

This update adds further bugfixes and improvements to the new Schema system. In addition, a brand new feature, Extended Breadcrumb system has been implemented, which will continue to receive improvements.

New Extended Breadcrumb

Natively in Xenforo, breadcrumbs neither accurately reflect the current path of the page, nor show the currently viewed item, be it a thread or article.

This not only causes a schema and structural mismatch for search crawlers, it also is not good user navigation experience.

The new Extended Breadcrumb feature (available at Admin -> SEO -> Advanced Options overhauls the Xenforo breadcrumb to address these issues. With the feature enabled, your breadcrumb will function with the following examples

Forum list

Old: Home
New: Home -> Forum list

Store

Old: Home
New: Home -> Store

Categories

Old: Home -> Forums
New: Home -> Forums -> Category Name

Threads

Old: Home --> Forums -> Category Name
New: Home -> Forums -> Category Name --> Thread Name (trimmed 40char)

AMS Series (list/series item)

Old: Home --> Articles
New: Home -> Articles -> Series/list --> Series Item (trimmed 40char)

This new system has been applied to all supported addons & content types - from resources and resource categories, AMS, UBS, XenPorta, and even shop and help pages.

Not only will this feature produce a sensible breadcrumb path for better user navigation, but this also supplies a more accurate breadcrumb link schema for search engines.

Complete Change Log

Miscellaneous
  • Improved phrasing, removed hard-coded labels, fixed some missing phrases
  • Fixed several navigation links in admin SEO pages
  • Added detection and removal of several legacy columns if a user had installed a very early alpha phase edition
  • Several sitemap handler tweaks
  • Fixed a bug where navigation section or style ID overrides would not apply on child nodes. The addon will now rebuild these settings upon upgrade.
Branding & schema
  • Added more options and tweaks to the Enhanced Schema system
Breadcrumb

    • Applied to the following sections
      • Forums, nodes, threads

SEO & Index Tools 1.0.6 Alpha 6

Update highlights

To update your theme, please download the latest version at:
https://www.nulumia.com/shop/my-downloads/

You must select "Overwrite files during install/upgrade" when upgrading to this version.

Overview

This is a bugfix update which brings further testing and compatibility with PHP 8/8.1, Xenforo 2.2.9, along with feature improvements. PHP 8 improvement is part of the goal reaching public stable release.

Meta system

Meta entities (objects in the database to hold meta data) are now much more optimized, with automatic deletion and placeholders depending on whether supported content types are soft or permanently deleted.

Clearing meta fields in the Google Live Preview will now accurately delete associated meta objects if they are present.

This was also a key task before public stable release.

Manage Index popup

This popup has been improved, when clicking on the index status icon for supported content. You can now preview the inherited index method and the name of the parent category, to better understand why your content is showing a red or green index symbol. This is a first step in creating a more useful popup. This popup will be migrated to a more comprehensive "Manage SEO" panel in future releases. This is also a step in reaching public stable release.

** DATABASE BACKUP STRONGLY RECOMMENDED **

Overview

This is a substantial update bringing numerous bugfixes, PHP 8 improvements, and an overhaul to the recommendations system.

PHP 8
The addon has been in active development & testing with PHP 8, with little to no issues currently detected. However, final PHP 8 compatibility will be guaranteed at Release 1.0.6 Stable.

New Recommendations

You'll find tons of new useful recommendations and statistics in this release, with many more planned. The addon will now scan threads, forums, and supported addon content such as products, resources and articles, to uncover missing descriptions and meta fields. In addition, orphaned data can also be detected and cleaned using a variety of new rebuild options.

Further, certain recommended settings are now detected.

Notes on the Recommendation system
Due to the amount of queries performed to generate recommendations, the results are now cached whenever visiting the Recommendations page. This way, notices and alerts on other sections of the admin area will not produce additional queries.

In addition, since future updates will continue to renovate and expand the recommendations system, recommendations will also be generated and cached on both addon upgrade, and fresh install.

This release currently marks "Missing meta title/descriptions" as a recommendation for non-thread content. Since this is technically optional and meta fields will always pull from the content title or description as a fallback, these recommendations will be made optional in the next update.

A new notice will greet you on the admin home page, indicating whether recommendations are present. This can be disabled at the SEO -> Advanced Settings page.

Meta Field Limits
The max character count for meta data has been increased to the following:
  • Meta title: 255
  • Meta description: 320
  • OpenGraph image path: 320
** Earlier versions of the addon used a higher than intended max character count for AMS meta data only. Upgrading to this version or above will truncate your AMS meta data to these lengths, if exceeding them.

AMS Compatibility
Numerous new improvements have been made to the Dual-Mode system for Article Management System. Several bugfixes have been made, greater efficiency, and improvements to the import system when migrating to AMS 2.2.17+.

Rebuild Tools

You can also find numerous new rebuild tools at the Admin -> Tools -> Rebuild caches page. These are intended to help cleanup meta data from users of very early editions of this addon, if orphaned data is detected in the database. A database backup is strongly recommended before using these tools.

There are tons more improvements to mention - so read up on the changelog!
