The current setting to combine the footer links chooser bar with the footer copyright is not well supported in most themes. While it does function, there is little conditional styling to display these contents in an optimal fashion when combined together.
New settings will be introduced that will align the footer copyright and footer links bar to opposite corners of the available space, when the combined setting is chosen. This will prevent a heavily "stacked" appearance.
Further, additional items added to the copyright area by third party addons are stacked vertically by default - even in the default Xenforo style. Tweaks will be made here to streamline these items together, with specified item separators such as " | " or " • ".
